Over 20 years ago, members of
Zion
recognized the need for a longer-term outlook for the finances of Zion
Lutheran
Church and School of
Beaver Township. They decided that some monies would be held in
perpetuity – which means that they would be accumulated and set
aside, left untouched for future generations. Left to grow over
the years, it was hoped that these restricted monies would be able
to provide continuous financial support of the mission of Zion congregation. They
specified that none of the gifted monies could be used for
operating expenses, but that the income generated by the money
could be used to fund specific requests. So in 1984, they
established the Zion Lutheran Church Religious and Charitable
Endowment Fund which has become known as just the Endowment Fund.
Over the years, the Endowment
Fund has grown through the donations of many members of
Zion. Some of the many ways that you can
endow Zion
with your gifts and invest in its future are:
Ø
Making cash gifts, donations or
memorials directly to the Fund (for which you may qualify for a
tax deduction)
Ø
Amending your will to bequeath
monies to the Fund upon your death
(If you don’t have a will, the Endowment Fund Committee
can help)
Ø
Directing funds from your IRA to
the Fund to satisfy the governments requirement of a minimum
distribution
Ø
Assigning your life insurance
proceeds to the Fund upon your death (some
Zion
members have already done this)
Ø
Assigning your stocks, bonds and
mutual funds to the Fund when you to get ready to sell them (you
won’t pay capital gains and also may qualify for a tax deduction)
If you have any questions about
the Endowment Fund or would like further information, please call
the church/school office. The secretary will contact one of the
current committee members and have them contact you. They will be
happy to discuss these matters with you privately and in all
confidence.
